10 WAYS TO STYLE A SCARF

I do enjoy a good tribute to times gone by, and one way I do that is by wearing silk scarves. I love how much it reminds me of the class and elegance that once was fashion. I feel so poised and feminine whenever I wear one. So today, I’m sharing with you 10 different ways to style a scarf! I’ll also share some of my favorite scarf-finds, in particular, a recently discovered Canadian blogger’s scarf line (Maria East) Up & Away by M.E. I just adore her latest collection…

I have used scarves in different sizes to give you an idea of what you could do with each of them and so you know what size scarves work best with each type of look. So, here it is… 10 ways to style a scarf!

Headscarf
This is by far the most retro-vintage look of them all, and easily my favorite way to wear a scarf.

Pair it with some cat-eye sunglasses and something from your closet that feels classic (pay attention to the neckline, textured fabric are always nice, and generally something in a plain print if you are going to pair it with a floral scarf).

Coat Belt
I only recently saw someone wearing their scarf this way. It seemed genius when I glanced and noticed what she had done, as it elevates a trench coat quite nicely, by simply tying your scarf to the back of your coat, keeping it open.

This is a lovely way to add a pop of color or add interest to an otherwise fairly plain coat. I usually wear my coats open like this with the belt that comes with them, but I shall be wearing it like this from now on.

Around Your Wrist
Think of a smaller scarf similar to a scrunchie, wearing a cute little bandana-style scarf on your wrist is a cute way to add some fun to any outfit.

I love that this almost seems like a new way to wear “jewelry”. It’s adorable, playful, and extremely cute. Maybe try it next time to need to bring a scarf anywhere, but don’t want to wear it all the time, or right away. The perfect way to transport it, while looking lovely.

Ponytail
Tying a pretty scarf around a ponytail is a perfect way to instantly elevate ANY outfit!

Switch this look up a little, by finding new and easy ways to pop a scarf in your hair. A high ponytail, a low ponytail, a braid, tie it inside a braid, wrap it around your head like a headband, or try a half-up style and feature it somewhere there. Scarves in your hair will be a forever trend!

Neck Tie
The most common way to wear a neck scarf (usually in a bandana-like size). I love this look too even when the scarf is a little bigger, and you are able to tie it in a complete bow instead of just a simple knot.

Neck scarves are a beautiful way to feel classy, while still wearing something that oozes vintage charm. Tying your scarf this way is appropriate from Spring all the way into Winter. So it’s not seasonally challenged, at all!

Belt
Using a scarf as a belt is a relatively old trick, but when done right can seem really unique and flattering!

I would wear a larger scarf like this with a wide-leg cut pair of jeans, or a cute little denim mini skirt. I love pairing scarves and denim with sweaters, as it’s a great way to get Fall-vibes, without needing to swap out your cuteness for functionality. Who says you can’t have both?

Shawl
More of an old-fashioned option, but still a practical one that oozes poise and sophistication.

I can imagine wearing a larger beautiful scarf as a shawl to a wedding or as a way to cover your shoulders when there’s a need for modesty. Luckily, this is also really a very stunning way to wear your favorite scarf!

Bun
Another way to tie a scarf in your hair! The options really are endless when working with a small scarf and any sort of hairstyle including a bun.

A few cute ways I like to wear my smaller hair scarf is by tying it around my top knot, putting my hair in a messy top knot accented with a pretty scarf bow, and even doing a mini top knot (half-up style) too. Even, possibly, wear it more as a hair bandana with your hair styled in a bun. All these ways are adorable!

Neck (Draped)
Neck scarves are so versatile, and one really chic way to wear a nice mid-sized scarf is simply draped around your neck.

I love the colors on this pretty blush and green floral scarf, it’s the perfect size to just use as added color or interest for your outfit. I chose to pair mine with a colored pair of shoes and a plain ivory dress. A great way to make your staple closet pieces earn their keep!

Handbag
The final way to incorporate a scarf into your wardrobe, no matter the time of year, is by tying it to a favorite handbag.

There are a few different ways you can tie a scarf to your bag, one is by tying a bow, another is more of a plain knot tie. You can also wrap the scarf around the handles for a different look – as well as so many more options!
